A Modern Family Home That’s Filled with Natural Light and Maximizes a Limited City Lot Line
Ready to maximize your home potential?
The urban contemporary home is an homage to creating cozy light, from the installed fixtures to the skylights.
This custom home is nestled in a busy urban neighborhood on a city street where lots are limited. The primary goals were to maximize the footprint while still including a detached accessory dwelling unit studio space in the back that offers flexible space for a growing family living in an urban environment..
Working with a nature-inspired color palette, neutral colors and textures flow throughout the house allowing the layered light story to play off the interiors.
There is a lot of natural light in the house by intention. But with close neighbors on both sides, window placement was deliberate.
The client desired a light and bright space with natural light while also respecting privacy situations with neighbors, including screening with landscaping.
Layering with the natural light placement, artificial lighting was also intentional. Fixtures were chosen for the layering effect they'd provide.
The kitchen works well for the limited space available, with plenty of storage and counter space, and it also provides a great working triangle. With three stories, three bedrooms upstairs, an office on the main level, and two bedrooms in the basement level with a large rec room, this space is ideal for a large family.
As the family grows, a studio space above the garage can be used as a work studio, a home gym, mother-in-law housing, or to house a nanny.
From the street, with all the windows lit up, the interior and exterior lighting story looks lovely and inviting. Just like the family that lives within.
